Universal Card has ripped me off by failing to send a timely statement of my account, then charged a late fee and jacked up the interest rate on my balance to double the original rate of around 9%. They maintain they sent my statements, but don't profess to have sent them on time. I was told the last statement went out on the 6th of April and when I finally received it last week, the payment was due the 7th. There is no way to deal successfully with a company that ignores its responsibilities and asks its customers to do what is impossible. They also waited until I was overdue to make a payment (for which I received no statement) until 42 days past due. It seems to me that the failure to send a timely statement was a ploy to allow the company to raise the interest rate and make money on the late fees.
