Ok, first let me say that I get it's not a technical rip off, and I know it's my own fault but,
I was unable to pay my loans after school, and ended up in default. I was contacted by D.C. S and had an arrangement. They had my address; they sent me monthly reminders so I know they had the right one. They had all my banking info to process payments. At some point after completing the default program they handed the loan back over to Sallie Mae. This was news to me, but again I will accept fault in almost all of this. A few months pass and I get a call from Sallie Mae telling me that I am behind and need to make a large payment and they need my checking account info. Now, I am by nature a suspicious person, and I had not been dealing with Sallie Mae so I told them I would not be providing my account info. I asked to have information sent to me about what is going on and I would get on it. The lady tells me that I had made one payment to them so she didn't see what the problem was.
I told her I had been dealing with DCS and I was not aware of making a payment to them directly. Her reply was pretty much well, you did so pay up. She said it was written and sent by me. That was certainly not the case so I asked for a copy. She told me they had mailed me everything I would need and it was returned. She gave me my parents address which would not have been the info provided to them by DCS, she said it was which I don't get. I gave her the accurate address, she said everything would be resent, and they would put me on a hardship thing for a few months.
Nothing ever comes so I am thinking ok, someone was trying to scam me. A few weeks ago I start getting calls again. Again I ask what exactly is going on, ask for paperwork, and I am prodding for information. Frist they give me an address in Alaska that I have not lived at for years (not even my parents address.) No record of my accurate address. Then she tells me that I don't get anything in the mail, it's all in email. I'm still trying to figure it all out so I ask this one about the payment they said I made, she tells me it was an automatic payment, I'm like ok, if I am on auto payments why are you not taking them? She does not answer instead starts getting a little huffy and telling me that I need to make a payment and take responsibility and blah blah blah. She tells me my agreed upon payment amount, I ask where they got that again as I have never paid them, she tells me the date the loan was taken out. I told her that's not what I asked. I ask again for info to be sent to me and I end up hanging up on her after she starts raising her voice.
I sent an email that day to Sallie Mae (because you cannot get anywhere through the phone.)
I ask for a few things.
1. paperwork
2. a record of this payment
3. Someone to please tell me what is going on.
I get nothing so I request a copy of the payment from the bank.
Today I get a call again telling me that I need to make a payment and that whole speech. I figure at somepoint someone will listen to what I am trying to say so I go into it again. This guy talks to me like I am making up the DCS thing. He stats telling me again about this payment, I tell him that the payment did not come from me, and that it came from my account and the info says that it came from DCS. I ask again when Sallie Mae became the company I was dealing with, he starts spouting off about tracing me, garnishing my wages, how I'm just making excuses and that this DCS company didn't provide them with anything and it's not their job to use whatever info they were given by them, only by me. (7 years ago when I took out the loan but of course that's not even the info they were using.) He says they sent out info 7 days ago to the address I gave the 2nd call. I gave it 7 days ago. I told him when I get it I will make a payment. He says that I would have received it by now and I'm just making excuses. I ask to speak with a supervisor and he tells me that I cannot talk to anyone else until I pay. Again I told him I wanted to talk with a supervisor he said hang on and hung up one me.
I get that this is my debt, I am paying off other loans so it's not like I think I'm above paying it, but I also know from the other loans and payments that there is some sort of paperwork involved not necessarily anything that I have to sign at this point, but something. DCS tells me my account with them is closed so they cannot help me. I do have some rights in this right? I believe legally I am allowed information regarding my debts. I think I might just be ranting but I mean WTF..
