I was contacted 2 weeks ago by PRA stating that I owed a debt to a retail jeweler. Little do they know this was a former employer of mine, and that I just happened to be a collector for them. The debt they say I owe is from 1985. I think 24 years is just a little past SOL, besides I paid off the account in 1985.
Since I worked for them the company has changed hands three times. I have asked them to verify this debt and they refuse. The amount they are trying to collect is to my recolection 12 or 13 times what the last balance was at the time I paid it off. They also keep asking for proof that I paid off the debt.
I think this could be a record for an out of statute collection attempt on a non-exsisting debt. I am about to send them a letter, but just wanted to add my 2 cents.
