Providian Bank of New Hampshire ripoff false advertising, offers protection for deferred billing in case of lost employment, did not provide service

I received an offer through the mail in late 1998 from Providian offering a $300 non-secured Visa. I paid the minimum fee and sent in the application. I received the card. They had an offer for additional protection if you lost your job. The additional coverage was to provide deferred billing for a few months.

I sent in for the application, after losing my job and never received a response. I called Providian Bank again and gave them all the information and requested another form to fill out. I was told that I had not lost 70% of my income and therefore was not eligible for the deferred billing under the plan that I had paid coverage for.

I had indeed lost 100% of my income and was not eligible for unemployment benefits at the time. During 1994 - I resided in Chicago, IL. I currently live in St. Louis, MO. I had a hard time getting a credit report because of my address change.

I finally got one after going through a lot of red tape in 2002. Providian has charged me a total of $500.00 and has a negative rating on my credit report. I had just started to rebuild my credit and was back in a negative standing. They reported my account to the credit bureau and never once contacted me for anymore payments.
