In 2007 two credit cards were obtained in my name that was apparent identity theft. The cards were maxed out immediately. I have never had a credit card at either place.
When I recieved the bill I notified them the debt is not mine and asked they send me any documentation they have with my legal signature affixed. Credit application or sales slips either would suffice. Their response was pretty much I had to prove my innocence. I guess GE Capital handles their credit cards and eventually they sold the accounts to LVNV Funding.
I first recieved a letter from Resugent. I responded denying the debt and requesting proof. Looks as it was then passed around to other crooks in the organization and they all took their turn with correspondence and attempted phone calls.
I responded to the correspondence each time with the same request in writing mailed return reciept. Of course they attacked with the telephone barrage and I ignored the calls and never spoke with anyone. I understand that they may consider the phone call with acknowledgement of the debt.
Three weeks ago I got my credit report on line and for the Old Navy and Belk write offs I disputed as identity theft as well as any of the cosa nostra that had reported anything as well.
Just today I recieved a letter from WW&R apologizing that they could help me with my request for proof so they have closed the file and returned it to their client (LVNV Funding).
I curious to see where this goes next.
