I recently applied for a 0 interest balance transfer with Providian Financial for $8,100. Boy was I surprised when I received a call from the credit card company I was paying off that Providian had sent $28,100 when I only had an outstanding balance of $8,100. Due to the excessive overpayment I could not get the money transfered back to Providian and had to be paid by check.
The other suprise came when I got my bill and I was charged interest on $28,100 and found out it was a 0% APR with a 8 plus percent balance transfer charge.
I asked Providian to credit my finance charges and cancel my account. They refused to do such and said that I had requested the $28,100 and had signed the agreement with 8 plus percent interest. I asked them to fax my signature with the supposed request for the money. They said they would... But guess what... I never received it.
I've paid off the full balance in full but was "taken" by Providian. Don't be fooled by their phoney offers. Providian is a deceptive company... Just read their listing of other unhappy customers.
