My daughter obtained a debt consolidation loan from CitiFinancial. She was able to meet her payments until hard times fell due to a change in her job. She got behind in her payments, but paid what she could. Late fees continued to mount.
For some reason I received a call from a CitiFinancial representative at my work number. I'm not sure how they got my number, but the representative told me they wanted to offer my daughter 0% interest for the life of the loan as long as they could withdraw $100 per month directly from her checking account. This was a deal I thought she should not refuse, so I had the form faxed to me. I then sent the form via email to my daugher, who filled it out, signed it, and faxed it to CitiFinancial at the fax number they provided. They claimed they received the fax and would begin withdrawal on September 30.
Now, 2 1/2 months later, my daughter received a phone call from someone at CitiFinancial telling her she was 3 months late in her payments and had accrued more late fees and interest! She told this representative the whole story. They told her she would have to contact the representative that gave her this loan.
The problem is that the phone number and extension of this person is now always busy and cannot be contacted.
We're not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions?
