I received a letter and a check for $3825 from this marketing firm that offered a secret shopping job. I receive checks all the time from vendors and clients. I was out of town and I had someone looking over my mail. They had been instructed to deposit checks into my checking account as I was out of town.
I actually called the bank to verify account and funds a at Bank of America which was my own bank. They verified the account and that the funds were in the account. The deposit was made and it was business as usual as I thought. (please note that they somehow did a credit check on me and I saw the inquiry - after the fact unfortunately...)
A couple of days later Bank of America froze all of my accounts and the money I had in my account previously and is now canceling my account due to me depositing a counterfeit check into my account. So, I don't have access to my own funds, no cards to use and am being accused of passing counterfeit checks! This is a total nightmare and I am disgusted that Bank of America has zero interest in trying to help me get to the bottom of this.
The check was a normal B of A computer check with a good account number and the funds in the account, just that the check was a complete fraud. Please don't fall for this obvious scam that I would not have gone for if I had seen this letter and check myself beforehand. Please let me know if there is any way to find these criminals and put the behind bars.
