After reading some of these complaints I decided to tell you of experience that I had with capital One. I hope by telling this it may help some unknowing, unwilling victim.
In December I wrote checks for my January bill payments. The first week in January I notice that all had posted to my bank account except two.
One of which was Capital One; I decided to call Capital One to see what the problem was. I was informed that they hadn't received a payment.
I asked if they could take the payment over the phone and void the check if they find it.
I was told that I would have to do a stop payment because if they received the check they would have to process it.
After a few choice words and letting them know that I had heard about their tactics (holding checks for 30 days) and I thought it strange that everyone received payment except two companies, one of which was (Capital One).
I decided to pay Capital One in full and cancel the credit card. I cut the card up and returned it to them. The last week in January I was checking my bank statement and found that the check to Capital One posted on 1/22/08.
Oddly enough, the check that I wrote to Capital One was dated 12/22/07. I called the company and asked them about the check and asked them how could they take a payment on a closed account.
I also, mentioned that they held that check for 30 days before sending it to the bank. I informed them that I sent them a chopped up credit card. The manager could give me no explainations.
I was then told that I would receive a check for my one hundred dollars in 4 to 6 weeks. I informed her that I refused to wait for a month or better to get my money back and reminded her that they withdrew it electronically.
She agreed to put it back into my account electronically and stated that it would post in 3 business days. Since it was near the weekend it didn't post until 1/31/08.
I was never asked or offered retured check fees if any. No one cared. I just thank the Lord for places like Riffoff report. For had it not been for people letting people like me know about companies like Capital one.
It could have been worse. I just want to say thanks and to keep doing what you're doing. There's nothing funny about financial ruin of any kind. This gives people like me a fighting chance.
