Consumerinfo.com, CIC Credit Monitor Rip-off by deceptive practices While you wait for "mailed PIN" you get charged!

On 1/2/03 I clicked on a popup ad advertising an "instant credit report." After going through the sign up process, they require a credit card number to get your report. However, if there is a "problem" obtaining the instant report, they tell you (by phone, in my case) that they will "mail you a personal code" so you can access the report.

However, the "mail" never arrives. Hence, I had completely forgotten about the whole thing. That is, until I checked my credit card statement and noticed "Consumerinfo.com (CIC Credit Monitor) had dinged me for $79.95 (the cost of a year's subscription to their site). I immediately contacted my credit card company to let them know this was a fraudulant charge.

When I reached CIC Credit Monitor, I spoke with Chuck who kept saying, "So you are calling after the 30-day free trial period?" I made it clear (politely) that I wanted the full $79.95 refunded to my credit card, since I had not received ANYTHING of value from CIC! He said "You'll receive a refund within 7 to 10 days." I'll update if/when it happens.
