I'm beginning to notice that Bank of America (BOA) will list a bunch of small charges as pending, I check my balance, I'm okay. THEN - I log back in the next day and see that a big check has cleared, along with the other small items and then they charge me 5 or 6 NSF fees because they say the large check cleared before all the pending items did. If that's the case, why wasn't the large item in the "pending pile" at the same time the smaller items were when I checked my balance. Oh, and because of the fees I'll be over drawn by $200 when if they had only charged a fee for the last item (the large amount), my balance would only have been negative by $40.
I've mentioned to customer service that I feel that it's a dirty trick to clear a large item, then the smaller ones, they claim that it's just an automated system that they have no control over.
I also know that Bank One (now part of Chase) was sued successfully because it was holding back deposits, clearing checks and then charging customers NSFs.
I'd change banks, but I'm not sure there are any better ones out there, and I think the unfairness to customers needs to end!
