I responded via phone to Afni.inc when I received a letter requesting payment of an old phone number from 1999 from (now defunct) Bell Atlantic.
They were asking for $347.11. I explained to the service rep that I chose to close the phone number many years ago because I used it for internet way before there was dsl or cable. At the time I closed it, it was paid in full.
I asked her to send me verifiication and validation. She said she was not able to because she thinks it was opened by another family member... My son.
I told her my son was 15-16 at the time and did not have a phone. She said he would have to call them to clear the record. I responded that he will not respond... If there is any response it will come from my attorney.
Now This is the second time I have received a letter from this collection agency. This time they are offering a reduced settlement.
In my first call I requested a fax number from them and she said they don't receive faxes. My next step is to send off a formal letter.
Evidentally this companies M.O. Is consistant among many complaints.
They need to be be sued.
In addition, the tear-off payment invoice lists another address along with the Illinois address. So where are they really located?
