Beaten A Happy Ending Thank You complaint

Let me share.

I recieved a notice from AFNI inc. About a phone bill that I allegedly did not pay from about 9 years ago. Reading about these bottom feeders on usacomplaints.com, I found a template for a 30 day dispute letter.

I'm including the entire letter I wrote, for the benefit of anyone else AFNI tries to screw:

December 28th

To Whom It May Concern
I received a letter on December 7 stating that Afni has acquired a delinquent account in my name for collection, in the amount of $292.63. The original creditor is listed as Bell Atlantic.

In accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I am requesting the following:

1. A detailed explanation of all charges and their origin.
2. A detailed calculation of all charges.
3. A copy of any agreement signed by me to pay these charges.
4. A verification or copy of any judgments if applicable
5. A confirmation of the original creditor
6. Proof that the Statute of Limitations has not expired for the collection of this account.
7. Proof of your companys license to operate and collect on accounts in the state of New York, including license numbers and registered agent.

Also, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I am requesting that your company cease all collection efforts until you provide the written information requested above.

I recieved this today from Afni:

This letter is to inform you that we have investigated your dispute related to the referenced account. Based on the inverstigation this account has been closed. Afni, Inc. Will take no further collection action.

In addition, if this account has been subject to credit reporting, the credit reporting agencies will be directed to remove this account from your credit report. Please note, it may take up to 60 days for the account to be removed from your record at all of the credit reporting agencies.in the interim, you may use this letter as a notice regarding the status of the account.

We apoligize for the inconvenience this situation may have caused.

What a great feeling! I've been harrassed by companies like this before, and this is the first out and out victory for me.

Please remember all to send out your 30 day dispute letters to Afni or anyone else. You can copy and paste mine... IT WORKED!
