American Tax Relief is truly a ripoff company. I contacted them out of desperation in January to handle my tax issues. After speaking with me for ten minutes, Steve Kitchen assured me that ATR could handle my case for $6500. Although I was leary of the whole thing, I NEEDED help. When I started working with the tax specialist, Rubina Artenian, I tried to explain to her that they needed to get the IRS to acknowledge my tax return that was filed instead of attacking me for what they claimed I owed. I was told more than one time that the amount that I owed DID NOT matter. Our concern was the offer in compromise that we filed. The IRS continued their attack on me by garnishing my wages and attaching a lien on my property. Each time I called Rubina it took her days to return my call and address whatever issue the IRS demanded.in July the IRS rejected the offer and Steve Kitchen informed me that because I falsely represented what I owed to the IRS they would need an additional $7500 to submit another offer in compromise. I told him that I had not falsely represented the amount, both he and Rubina told me that the amount didn't matter. Now all of a sudden it did matter and according to him, the fee that I was charged was based on what I owed to the IRS.
I know that I explained all of that during that first ten minute conversation, however he conveniently did not recall. His only interest at that time was getting the $6500. After I informed him that I did not have any more money to pay them, he said there was nothing more he could do. I have since received another call from someone named Chris at ATR who started telling me the same thing again. The bottom line is that here in October I am out of $6500 and am back to square one. I have no money to hire another tax attorney and the IRS are continuing to charge me interest and penalties on an incorrect tax bill. Where do I go from here? I think we should all band together and do something about the ripoff kings at ATR!!
