Household bank fraudulently charged me for a $30 annual membership fee, and then when my husband "paid" the charge, they posted the check 1 day late, which caused a $30 late fee charge. My husband, unknowingly paid the late charges 2 times, until I called and cancelled the card.
The reason their actions are fraudulent are as follows:
1. I did not ASK for this credit card, it was sent to me via mail.
2. I NEVER activated this card. Which the support staff verified over the
phone, the account was never activated and never used.
3. When I called to close the account I never opened, the support rep kindly
removed the late charges, but said he could not refund the money my
husband had paid, even though he was paying on a card that was not
activated.
Household bank should not be allowed to bill potential customers who they sent unrequested cards to, unless the card is activated by the consumer. Their current practise is a way for them to scam people out of money. Fortunately my husband caught on to what was going on and we only lost $90. But that's money that could have been saved or spent else where.
