In the first month of opening my card with HSBC I made a full payment of the balance, but they misprocessed it by moving the decimal a couple places to the left. As a result, they processed it as only a fraction of the balance, and then did not bill me for subsequent monthly payments, instead racking them up with additional late fees and filing a negative report to credit reporting agencies.

After months of repeatedly contacting them, providing documentation as proof of the original payment amount, false assurances by their customer service that they were going to rectify the matter, and their botching two subsequent payments, they owned up to their error. They restored my interest rate, removed late fees and penalties, and swore that they would notify Experian that the report they'd filed was to be removed. Months later, when renewing my car insurance, I was notified that I am not getting the best rate on my new policy because of the negative credit history reported by Experian. I checked my credit report and found that HSBC has never removed their erroneous entry. I called them to complain but got (1) India, (2) transferred, (3) put on hold, then (4) disconnected.

I am at a loss how a company can be so incompetent and/or corrupt and still be in business. I am filing with the BBB and filing a complaint under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Avoid HSBC at all costs.
