I have an account at Fifth Third Bank. On April 21st I became over drawn by $1.10 And again on the 22nd There was another item on my account making me $12.95 overdrawn. That's two items (both debits). I went into the bank to pay the $78.95 ($12.95 plus the $66.00 for the two overdraft fees.) and bring my account up to a zero balance so I could close the account.
When I got to the bank they told me I had a negative balance of $144.95. I was then told By Ryan (a bank manager) that I had 4 overdrafts and that When you swipe the card the money is considered gone not when it posts to the account.
I went over the account ledger that they gave me and did the math "their way" there are still only 2 overdrafts. When I talked to Tammy (another manager at the bank) she told me that I was charged the overdraft fees when I used my card AND when it posted to the account. That's 2 overdraft fees for each item. (that doesn't include the $24.00 a day fees) I now have a balance of over $200.00 and it goes up by $96.00 every 4 days!
When I opened my account I had something called "matrix" removed from my account so I could not debit more that what I had in the bank. I was told by Tammy that I was crazy and they couldnt do that and then by Ryan that the system re-sets itself and puts it back on my account "in case of an emergency".
I have the account ledger that the bank gave me and e-mails to and from the bank. I would like to get this worked out But, they refuse to work with me. Deborah an executive bank manager refused to even talk to me about the problem.
Dont use fifth third bank!!
