RE: Consumer unable to receive response from American General Finance after five years of trying, resulting in tarnished credit. Please help.
I have been having a horrible time trying to fix a credit issue regarding American General Finance Corporation. I have tried, tirelessly for the past four years without success. My last attempt was a certified letter to their assistant legal Counsel, Mr. Scott M. Murphy on 25 January.
I am worn out from the years of letters, AGF's inability to respond and worst yet, their ability to ruin my credit rating due to immoral business practices. Maybe I should not have told them I was disabled with MS and had health issues. But in some twenty years in business I have never been treated with such disrespect.
Due to the fact that my last effort (a certified letter with three years of records) to their legal counsel has turned up with no results, I am heading the PR route. I have plenty of correspondence showing my good faith. I have a telephone-recorded phone call when their employee told me that I was wrong as he was an ex police office and knew the law, lady. This is a joke. My credit has been tarnished by them and I can not get them to reply.
Bottomline, they never credited some $600 in payments on a loan though I faxed them the cancelled checks. I wouldn't pay until they gave me credit. They never did, just increased my penalties, rates and sent me to collections. It's an embarrassment for what I thought was a respectable company.
