Capital one told me that my first statement would come 30 days after I signed the contract:
I came 2 months later.
My first Statement I received was technically the second statement because I never received the first one.
I paid 6 times the amount stated on the statement in my first payment.
My only statement stated that my next bill period wasn't for another two months. (I thought strange, but okay)
2 months came and went-no bill so I called them.
Phone call:
They told me my payments were overdue.
Even though my statement said I had 2 months till my next statement plus I never received a bill.
I was told that the statements are complimentary and they do not have to send them. (that was not implied on my original statement or contract.)
I was told I could pay over the phone but there would be a $5 service fee. I asked if there were any other charges other then that?
I was told that yes, I had a $29 late fee.
I was told if I paid over the phone the late fee would be waived but I would still have to pay the $5 service fee, which they would not waive. I was told if I mailed in my payment the would charge me the late fee.
My contract stated that I signed on for a 12 month no payment, no interest.
If that is the case, why did I have a late fee? They never did directly answer my question. After paying over the phone I asked one more time if there were any other charges on my account. After a brief pause she said 'yes, you have another late fee from the previous month. I asked her to remove it but she said she could not. I asked to talk to the manager.
The manager and I went round and round and she did not budge on waiving the fee.
Even though:
My contract states: 12 months, no payment, no interest.
I only received one statement in 3.
My one statement I received stated that my next payment would not be due until 2 months from my original statement. (which would be now, that is why I called)
When I told her I would report the company to the better business bureau she said I had that right but it would not help me. I said, maybe not, but if the company does not try to rectify this situation then there will be a negative remark against Capital One.
Guess what? I went to the B.B. B and Capital One has had over 6,000 complaints filed against them and only 1,800 or so have been addressed by the company. They even have a lawsuit out of Minnesota that for the most part is in regards to misleading information. Funny how that is pretty much what my complaint is about.
