Ripoff stole money preyed on desperate persons lied

As I write this report I am embarressed to say I fell for such an outrageous scheme, but when one is desperate to obtain a loan with poor credit ones common sense slips.

I applied for a $5,000 loan with a company called Second Chance Investments on 7/28/06. They called me back and stated that I needed to secure the loan and could due this one of three ways: a. Use my own personal collateral b. Have someone else put up collateral for me or c. Put down 15% as insurance. Since I didn't have 750.00, he said that the insurance company would be ok with 500.00 and I could pay the remaining balance after I received the loan. I did ask questions on where they were located and he said Washington, DC. As I now know there is not a company in DC by that name.

I sent the 500.00 via money gram to a Luke Jones in Victoria British Columbia, Canada. I called back my representative "Todd" and gave him the moneygram confirmation number. He said he would work on processing the loan through to my bank account. Oh did I mention I was stupid enough to give them my bank account information!

I called back several times that same day and would either get the answering service or a representative who said that "Todd" was busy, or he'd call me back. I waited and waited! UNTIL... A gentleman by the name of Steve finally called me back. I explained my situation and he said that the insurance company was requiring another $400.00 to secure the loan! I kept asking if I was scammed and he "assured" me that this company had been around for 19 years. I asked if I could be refunded the money (500.00) and he said he would call me back. He actually did call me back and left me a message which the caller ID viewed as DOTCOM. He said that he spoke with the "insurance company" and that they would be getting me my refund next week. He said he would call me on Monday to set up the transfer. It is now Tuesday and I have not heard anything.

I have called the number several times and all I get is their answering machine. All I want is my money back and be done with this and warn people out there that this is such a scam!!!
