Ripoff methods they use to rack up excessive NSF fees!

This happened in April 06, but still very upset about it and would like to know if others have had success in complaining to regulating agency, i.E. Federal Reserve??? Or would like to know if anyone has filed a law suit?

Compass held a deposit and caused our account to rack up many NSF fees. It was an account we used to allow our daughter to withdraw money for college living expenses. She also deposited her paychecks in that account.

She unfortunately made the mistake of believing her paycheck was going to be deposited early becuase of holiday so she went ahead and used her debit card. When she realized her check hadn't come in and NSF fees were racking up she immediately deposited a check to stop the NSF fees. Compass put a hold on her check for 3 days and caused her to rack up even more fees. Totalled approx. $1,000.00.

She had had the account for over 3 yrs. And her debit history was for food items, usually under $10.00. They could see she wasn't trying to rip them off. And she was trying to stop the NSF's by doing a deposit. We believe they purposely put a hold on deposit checks and process the debits first before the deposits. This is why the NSF's kept mounting.

OUr daughter knows it was her mistake to begin with and was willing to pay the fees for the ones before her deposit. However after she deposited they should have processed the check and stopped the fees from mounting up. We pleaded with them, but they were uncaring and rude.

OUr daughter went in and settled with them, some of the fees were reversed (not many) but then after she settled and had a positive balance they went back in and helped themselves again for more fees stating she had some pending charges. If they were pending and she had settled the account and had a positive balance then they shouldn't have helped themselves again to her account. We were so thankful we had put in a little more because if we hadn't they would have caused her to go NSF again!!!

There is more to the story, but will spare everyone. Please just tell me if we have any recourse.
Thanks
