I had a bill that was due to a hospital from April for a whole $59. I paid the bill originally to the hospital but it was not processed because I didnt include my security code for my credit card. I was never contacted by the hospital, instead the bill was sent to collections. I was never contacted by the first collections agency to inform me that it had not been processed until March of 06.
When I received the letter, I paid the bill immediately, only to call a few days later to find out why the bill was not processed. I was informed that no one had ever attempted to contact me regarding the issue until the collections department had taken the bill. Seems to me like the problem shouldve stopped there. Well, it didnt.
I was contacted not even a whole month later by the infamous West Asset Management. I told the caller that I had already paid the bill to the other company. The woman told me that I had not paid it on time and I owed the money to them now. Therefore meaning I had to pay the bill twice. She told me in order to not have to pay it to West Asset Management, I had to prove to them that I had paid it.
I got my bank statement, made the appropriate copies and wrote a letter. I checked my credit report a few days later only to find that West Asset Management had reported the bill to the credit bureau. The next time they called, I told them the bill was paid and I needed the mailing address. They "didn't know the address."
I finally found what I thought was the address, mailed a letter certified with return receipt to them as well as Experian and Equifax requesting the removal of the inaccurate reporting... And lo and behold... West Asset Management didn't receive my letter.
I am sending a new letter certified with return receipt once again tomorrow. This has become a VERY costly situation. I have been turned down for SEVERAL different loan attempts and have seen my credit report drop literally 55 points over ONE bill. Surely this has happened to someone other than me?
