I worked at Better My Loan aka BML Financial for a few months as i was learning the real estate industry. During my time there, I started to notice a few red flags here and there, but took me longer to understand the magnitude of how they were effecting borrowers, notaries, processors, and our own employees.
Ryan Bertel, the owner, Anthony Tran, the manager, and Jon Hilario, manager, all knowingly deceived many borrowers, notaries, processors, and our own employees on a continual basis. They knowingly altered docs that had to go to lenders to get them approved for loans. They also deceived the borrowers to put them in loans they were overly qualified for, so they could rake in 3 or 4 points on it. Always plenty of lies going on.
Ryan Bertel was the source of the problem. He knowingly witheld money owed to notaries, who i witnessed calling in the office multiple times demanding Ryan compensate them, which he never did. He also witheld payments to loan processors and shorted his own hard working employees their owed commissions from closed loans. He is your classic highly unethical, fraudulent salesman.
Ryan Bertel and Anthony Tran were also known for going a bit overboard in workplace sexual harassment issues with women.
Most of the "loan officers" in the office aren't even licensed, yet are illegally quoting rates to borrowers. Ryan Bertel didn't even have a Broker's License.
Borrowers, lenders, notary publics, processors, and loan officers, stay away from Ryan Bertel and BML Financial aka Better My Loan... It should be worsen my loan!!
