I recieved a call from "Becky" telling me I owed $31.68 to a credit card from 2001. She would be happy to do a check draft to get this amount taken care of today. I told her that I had no idea what she was talking about and that I did k now her company and I wasn't giving her anything. She told me to send a letter of disput to her fax 320-229-8586.
After getting off the phone I went online and checked my credit reports. This credit card is closed and paid in full. The credit card is on all 3 reporting agencies with a 0 balance, paid as agreed and closed by customer. I found all my statements from this credit card as well as an affidavit for a fraudulent charge in the exact amount she is telling me I owe. The credit card company took that amount off my account, it was fraudulent. I don't owe it.
Now I have Jefferson Capital on my credit report saying I owe them $31.68. They reported it 02/06, thank god I found out about it quickly. I am disputing it with the reporting agency and I have faxed Jefferson a letter telling them to remove it at once. Anyone have any other useful information before this gets out of hand? My current credit score is over 700, I don't want it damaged if it hasn't been already.
