Cross Country Bank/applied Card Systems
Don't ever obtain a cross country bank credit card - you'll be sorry!

This "fiasco" started in april of 1999. My husband had a visa and i had a visa & mastercard with ccb - three accounts total. I had always made all three payments with one check and the payments/account numbers were always indicated at the bottom of each check. After i had made the payments in april of 1999, my husband had informed me that he had paid his visa in full as soon as the bill came.

Ccb proceeded to charge him interest for paying on time! Ccb applied the $105.00 payment ($35.00 for each account) to my husband's account which was paid in full.ccb refused to credit my other two accounts; they said it was impossible to move the credits to my "open" accounts - meanwhile; by this time, my visa was going to be delinquent for the month.ccb said i would have to request a refund in writing!

I was able to get a fax over to the "presiden'ts office" in west virginia; i had to threaten an attorney; all of a sudden, the payment was transferred to my visa account.

Not only did they not credit my account for the $105.00, they added the $105.00 to my visa three times! This in turn put me over my limit. My husband and i subsequently closed all three of our accounts in may of 1999.

I was charged $324.00 in over-limit fees over a one year period not to mention finance charges on these amounts, etc., etc. It just goes on and on! In june of i got ccb to refund $243.00 of the over-limit charges, but they refused to refund the remainder of these charges even though ccb put me over my limit to begin with! One ccb employee said i should stop "bitching" about the over-limit fees, after all, ccb refunded me some of them!

I have sent my account to "product resolution" (whatever that is) twice and ccb never called to let me know what the findings were. (surprise, surprise!) so i just gave up and waited until september (this is when i decided that i no longer owed any more money on my account).

I proceeded to send a money order showing "payment in full" along with a certified letter to the president's office in wv. They signed my return receipt three weeks later and charged me a $30.00 late charge.

I received a "canned" letter about three weeks after that thanking me for my input. I was told by a rep that they sent me a letter in august indicating my account was "ok" - they could find nothing wrong with the charges.

Very strange since i did not send them a request in august nor could the rep tell me what was in the letter - so i guess the letter doesn't exist. I finally got an attorney to write a letter for me to remind ccb of their legal obligations. They will not get another dime from me.

So here i am; haven't paid them a dime since september. The attorney's letter went out on 2/21 to wv and de to mr. Abessinio's attention (ceo of applied card systems). The harrassing phone calls stopped because ccb has referred my account to a collection agency! Can you beat that!

I have also written to attorney general john ashcroft's office so they may begin investigating ccb and applied card systems (they are one in the same)... I just got my certified return receipt back and i will keep you posted on the results, if any.

In my letter, i included excerpts of several complaints listed in the cardholder reviews section of the internet. I would be very interested in joining in an existing class action lawsuit - if any of you have these people have to be stopped!
