I just checked the complaint and saw the Douglas Hernberg is still at it. I obtained a mortgage through him back in 2000. As the time for my closing got closer, he would not send a committment letter, but it was too late to go to another source.
He did send to me an "estimate of closing costs", but when his paperwork finally showed up at my attorneys office, the day of the closing, there was $2,300 in closing costs not on the estimate. I had to pay it or not close. I sent a complaint to the State of Florida, and they FORCED him to return that money. However the rate of the loan was higher than he quoted, so I had to pay more each month until I re-financed. The appraisel fee was also higher than he quoted.
Here it is almost 5 years later and he is still licensed by the state of Florida as a mortgage broker. If anyone else has had problems they should also contact the state.
