Merchants' Credit Guide Co
Rip-Off, Sherman, Ken Hughes, Sprint Communication.com

I had a Sprint Calling Card around 1996 which was sent to a collection agency. I paid the collection agency $158 (the total amount owed) and I shows on my credit report, in the delinquency section, as paid. On one of the credit reporting agencies it is closed, on one it is opened, and on the other it does not show opened or closed. It should have been off my credit report by now but it's still there with an opened date of 12/1 and date reported of 5/1. Yesterday, 1/31/05, I got a letter from Merchants' Credit Guide Co. Stating that their client Sherman, L.L.C. Had purchased my alleged default account from the original creditor Sprint Communication Com. The said I owed $63.69 and offered three types of repayment plans:

1.) Pay a one-time payment equivalent to 50% of the alleged balance in the amount of $31.98, which is $0.13 over 50%.

2.) Make 3 equal consecutive monthly payment of equivalent to 70% of the above referenced balance in the amount of $44.77, which will equal $134.31 ($64.68 above the balance.

3.) Make a monthly payment that is affordable to me at this time.

I called them at the number they provided, 888-249-4134, to ask them about this letter. The rep. Sound as if she was already mad. I had not given her any information I just told her I was calling concerning the letter I had received from them and she started telling me things about may account like, the account was back in 1996, my address (which is my current address and not the address I had at the time of the bill), and my name. I asked her how did she know who I was since I did not tell her, she said "caller ID." I told her the account had been paid in full and is show on my credit report a paid. She said if I had a dispute sent her evidence that the account had been paid and they will research it. She also said it had to have the same account number. The account number on the credit report and the 2 account numbers on their letter are not the same. I'm trying to buy land and a build a house so I got a copy of my credit reports from the big three, TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian. On the Equifax credit report there is an inquiry from Sherman Credit, I guess the purchaser of the debt. The type of inquiry Sherman Credit had was PRM. Equifax explains PRM to be a promotional inquiry which my name and address were given to a lender for credit offers, such as credit card solicitations. Thses inquiries remain on your file for 12 months. I am going to contact Sprint and ask them about the account and see why it has not been taken off my credit report and I'm also going to call Anderson Fin Network I, who is listed on my credit report as the collection agency for the sprint account. If there are any other suggestions I would be glad to hear them. Thanks
