Ripoff careless accounting lack of record keeping rude customer service

Chase sold my mortgage to Vanderbilt & sent notification to me 12/15/04 that effective 1/1/05 all payment should be sent to Vanderbilt. As my payment due date is the 2nd of each month, I mailed my payment, along with the Chase coupon with the new Vanderbilt account number noted, to the Vanderbilt address.

That check cleared my bank on 1/5/05. The next morning, 1/6/05, Vanderbilt attempted to draft ANOTHER payment from my checking account! Thankfully, there wasn't enough to cover it, but it did cost me $27 in fees from my bank.

I called customer service that same day. I was given a fax number & told that as soon as they received proof in writing from my bank, they would start processing a refund of the $27 NSF. I was also told they would make SURE it didn't happen again. I got printouts from my bank and faxed to Vanderbilt on 1/8/05.

I called to make sure the appropriate person had received the fax, but was told she didn't work for the company & nobody ever heard of her.instead, I was connected to a snippy individual who was my account representative. This person told me in no uncertain terms, that Vanderbilt had NOT processed any drafts and would NOT refund ANY money to me.

This started a series of calls & faxes, each time faxing MORE pages of proof that they HAD caused the problem, along with the originals from 2003 proving that I had cancelled automatic withdawal with Chase.
Each time I was unable to speak to the same person from the previous call (I kept names & extension numbers)! I finally had to file a block with my bank to stop Vanderbilt's 2nd attempt, which cost me another $20!

The last straw is receiving a collection letter from that rude 'account representative' in Austin, demanding that I call her to explain why I've not SENT HER THE PAYMENT I PROMISED! I may call her today, but it may be the beginning of legal action.

I have my records for the past year, check or Money order number, dates, etc., showing I am NOT behind.

As soon as I have time, I will be refinancing my mortgage with someone reputable.
