My son was rear-ended by a driver in an Avis rental car. This was back in August. We only just got our car approved for payment for repair on friday, December 20th. It took 4 months of haggling with the Avis rep to get to this point. You couldn't get her on the phone ever. You had to leave a message and wait for her to call back which would take 2-3 days. After 3 months she passed the process over to a new Avis insurance and we were told this person would have to approve the repair. Avis at that point was saying the damage wasn't from their driver's responsibility... Even though it was. Then, at the last minute the appraiser showed up on friday and then approved the repair. We were without our second car for 4 months. I and to rent a rental car which they offer to provide but did agree to pay for the rental if and when they approved the damage repair on my car. Now... After I've paid for the rental ($245) for a week, they're saying they did not approve the repair and were not responsible for said repair which was done. I have my car now after 4 months. It's fully repaired. Avis paid for the full damages but the Avis rep is now arguing/saying they were not responsible for the complete repair of the car even though they paid for it. Had agreed to pay for my one week rental and are now saying they won't pay for it. Be very careful with this company and double check any other choices when renting from Avis that you have extra coverage either with your American Express card or your own car coverage. I'm now contacting my own insurance to follow up on this. Wonderful thing to have to deal with over the holidays after 4 months of disrespectful treatment from the Avis insurance rep.
