Credit Card ripoff

In Early November I received a phone call from a young man telling me that I had been approved for a MasterCard with a $2,000 credit limit. He said all I would have to pay was a $249 one-time fee. I told him I wasn't interested and that I didn't want a secured credit card but rather an actual credit card without having to put anything on it. He assured me that I had been approved for an actual credit card and not a secured credit card. He stressed again that I had earlier been rejected by due to my credit change, I had now been approved. I had my doubts so I declined the card.

The following day a girl called and told me the same thing. I told her I was concerned that this was a scam and she assured me it wasn't. I asked her for the company's name, address and phone number and she gave it to me. She even gave me the customer service phone number (866-784-0260) and said I should call ext 9000. She then took my checking account number, and all other pertinent information and said I would be receiving the card within 15 working days. The funds were taken out of my account on November 15. Today I became very concerned because my husband had heard about companies ripping off people over the phone by promising the exact thing as this company told me. I called Customer Service and I told her my concern. She was abrupt but assured me it wasn't a scam. I told her I needed the card right away and she told me it would take 23 working days — different than what I was told originally.

Tonight my concerns escalated and I decided to call information and find out if this company is even listed — they weren't. I tried two more times in case the operator had made a mistake, and each time the company came up as being unlisted. I then checked the Internet to see if anything came up on them and sure enough I saw a long list of ripp-off reports on them.

I did call my bank right away and reported what had happened. The lady was very helpful and they are sending me a application for dispute, and she put a hold of any future attempted withdrawals by both Centurion and the phone company that supposedly gives you 3 months free long distance calls. She also assured me that they will do everything possible to get the funds reimbursed to my account within 10 days.

I have learned a very hard lesson from this — I will never fall for such a scam again. I fully intend to do whatever it will take to bring these people to their knees and stop them from committing such crimes.
