This company has a hiring scam where they enlist unsuspecting recruiters to put ads out to hire collection managers for $75k per year. Once you inquire, you find out it's a sales position in which you try to get businesses to consign their bad debt to Whitman to collect on. The guy who owns Whitman (some guy with a Bronx accent - forget his name) claims he'll pay you $6,000 per month plus a HUGE percentage and, if you're really successful, you can "open your own agency in your town."
I thought it was too good to be true so I made an arrangment to fly down to Florida and check it out.
Two days before my non-refundable flight was to depart, the recruiter calls and tells me not to bother. That this guy scammed another recruit of his out of his first paycheck (he took the business this guy drummed up for him but he didn't get a red cent). Then the recruiter tries to get me with another collection agency who wants to pay me $30k a year, minimal benefits, no vacation, to call banks to buy their bad debt for far less than it's worth. When I turned that down, the recruiter gets pissy with me!!
