I live in Edinburgh, Scotland. Yesterday, the 28th, I received a call from an Indian-sounding man saying he was from Microsoft and that they had found many problems with my computer and that it was about to crash. I questioned him for a while, but he was so convincing, even saying he was in Washington. He had full control over my computer and then told me there were 84 problems and that I needed a license for 10 years and security for any virus.
I foolishly agreed to pay the 70 pounds, which he then converted to $71.30 Canadian dollars. I asked why, and I was told that it had to be in Canadian dollars. By this time the cash had gone from my account to pay for this scam. I immediately called my bank to cancel my card, but the money had already been taken. The card is cancelled until a new one is issued.
I cannot believe I fell for this scam. Never before have I done this. This is all the information I will give out now. I plan to call Microsoft today when they open to tell them, so it does not happen to anyone else.
