First, I have loved the entertainment of the video game industry since the Atari 2600. This is a billion-dollar industry, and a game system's popularity over the years is based on many aspects. But the most important aspect to me is "just plug it in and play." I was lucky enough to purchase the Xbox 360 the day it came out, but I was only able to get the core system.
Recently I purchased the hard drive to access (play) the older Xbox games. The first hard drive I purchased did not work, and I had to return it for another unit that same day, which was real nice. But I found out I could only play Halo and Halo 2 (the best games ever made) without going online to download a program to access other regular Xbox games. It took hours to find out that it is not easy for me to access these programs. Needless to say, I still do not have access to the older games, and I never knew how hard it would be. The hard drive is useless without joining a membership and spending time downloading and researching which games will work anyway.
For someone who is as alert about gaming as I am, Microsoft never stated the difficulty of playing Xbox games on their new 360 unit. It only said that with the hard drive you can play regular Xbox games. Where is the fine print? I understand that millions of people are happy, and they should be, but I am very disappointed. I was a true fan of Xbox, but I am losing faith because of this misrepresentation. This system should have waited to be sold in stores. The games out now will get old real fast, with few titles coming soon. Time will tell. Please feel free to help me understand this matter if anyone has the same problem.
