Renewal of contract

I have a contract for 2 years with XM. Did not remember it was coming time to renew but on 1/24 I received a letter from XM stating that I was in collections for non payment of my account. I called the company and spoke with one of the reps and was told that they had tried to use my credit card that I had signed up with and was declined. After I composed my anger, i asked what card where they trying to use? This happened to be one of the cards I had cancelled months ago. How could they try to charge on my account without any authorization from me? I would never give anyone or any company to do this! This to me is a terrible invasion of privacy and most of all fraud! In the past if you do not pay for service they just stop service. How many other people have they done this to and also I am sure this has been reported to my credit bureau too.
