Sirius XM: how to cancel, refunds, auto-renew, billing disputes, arbitration opt-out and where to complain (checked October 11, 2026)

Sirius XM's own pages, opened on October 11, 2026, set out the routes below. They are the company's wording, not our assessment. Most of this site's archive posts about Sirius and XM date from 2004 to 2013, before the current Customer Agreement, so the practical steps here come from the company's current terms and help pages.

Cancelling. The Customer Agreement (Last Updated June 5, 2025), Section 4(a), says: “All Subscriptions may be cancelled by phone or online chat as follows: Audio/Infotainment: 1-866-635-2349 Monday-Sunday 8 am - 8 pm ET ... Online Chat: siriusxm.com/contactus 24 hours / 7 days a week.” It adds: “You must cancel at least 24 hours before your upcoming renewal date to avoid being automatically renewed and charged for a new Subscription Period,” and that “Uninstalling our app, selling or trading in your vehicle, or not using the Service (or any part thereof) does not cancel your Subscription.” Streaming (app-only) subscriptions through siriusxm.com “may be cancelled any time ... by logging into your online account at siriusxm.com/myaccount.” The Help Center article “How do I manage or cancel my service?” gives a longer list for direct-billed subscriptions: the Subscriptions tab in the Online Account Center, chat, or a call to 866-635-8641. The two pages give different telephone numbers; both are shown here as the company publishes them.

Subscriptions bought through someone else. The Customer Agreement says that for a subscription bought through a third party (it names Google, Apple, Roku and T-Mobile), “You must manage and cancel your Subscription directly with that External Service.” The Help Center page says the same for Apple and other billing providers.

Refunds. Section 3(b) says: “Audio Subscriptions Are Non-Refundable.” For monthly billed audio plans, “If you cancel a monthly billed Subscription within seven (7) days of the start date of your Subscription, your Subscription will terminate immediately and any fees paid are eligible for a pro-rata refund, if requested. This 7-day right to cancel does not apply to subsequent monthly renewals.” For plans billed for periods longer than a month, “If you cancel a non-monthly billed Subscription within thirty (30) days of the start of your Subscription or each subsequent renewal charge, your Subscription will terminate immediately and fees paid for that Subscription Period are eligible for a pro-rata refund, if requested.” Section 3(e) says any refund or credit on a non-refundable plan is “only as an accommodation and at our sole discretion.” Cancellations after those windows take effect at the end of the current subscription period.

Trials and car subscriptions. Section 2(c) says: “Subscriptions that are included with the purchase or lease of a vehicle do not automatically renew.” Paid plans, including those starting with a free period, “will automatically renew for additional like periods ... until cancelled” (Section 2(b)), at “the rates in effect at the time of each renewal, plus applicable fees and taxes.” Selling the vehicle does not cancel a paid subscription, and Section 3(b) says no refunds are given if there is no activated vehicle on the plan.

Billing questions and disputes. Section 8(e): call or chat as above, or write to “Sirius XM Care, PO Box 33174, Detroit, MI 48232. Attention: Listener Care.” It also says: “If you wish to dispute any charge, you must contact us within thirty (30) days after the date of the charge in question. OTHERWISE, YOU WAIVE YOUR RIGHT TO DISPUTE THE CHARGE.” The Agreement lists fees that may apply, including an Activation Fee, a Late Fee and the U.S. Music Royalty Fee. The company's royalty-fee page says the fee is “included in the advertised prices you see” and was 19.98 percent of the subscription price of satellite plans that include music channels as of February 24, 2026 (8.8 percent for streaming plans as of August 22, 2018).

Arbitration and opting out. Section 13 of the Agreement requires a written pre-arbitration dispute notice to “Sirius XM Radio LLC, 1221 Avenue of the Americas, 35th Floor, New York, NY 10020, Attention: General Counsel” and a 60-day informal resolution period before arbitration or small claims court, provides for binding American Arbitration Association arbitration, and contains a class-action waiver. Section 13(h) allows a customer to opt out of arbitration by mailing an Opt-Out Notice that “must be received no later than thirty (30) days from the date of purchase or the start of your Subscription, whichever comes first.”

Unpaid balances and collections. Section 3(d) of the Customer Agreement says: “IF YOUR SUBSCRIPTION IS CANCELLED, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENT OF ANY OUTSTANDING BALANCES ON YOUR ACCOUNT, INCLUDING ANY FEES YOU MAY INCUR OR MAY HAVE INCURRED. We reserve the right to pursue any amounts you fail to pay or that arise in connection with our collection efforts, including bank overdraft fees and collections fees.” Section 8(b) says: “If you do not pay your balance, we will deactivate your Subscription for non-payment and charge a late fee.” A collection agency is a different business from SiriusXM; a consumer who receives a collection notice can ask the collector for written validation of the debt under federal law.

Free Access Plan and lifetime subscriptions. Section 7(d) of the Agreement says that SiriusXM may “activate or reactivate your vehicle radio at no charge to you after your Trial or paid Subscription ends” under its advertising-supported Free Access Plan, and that a customer may ask that this not happen by mailing a letter to “Sirius XM Care, PO Box 33174, Detroit, MI 48232, Attention: No Free Access Subscription” with first and last name, email address, postal address, vehicle Radio ID/ESN and a statement that the Free Access Plan is not wanted. Section 7(b) says the Lifetime Subscription Plan “is no longer for sale,” that Lifetime Subscriptions “are not transferable from one person to another and are non-refundable,” and that an active one may be moved to another radio for a $35 transfer fee.

Calls and texts. The Do Not Call Policy page says customers may add numbers to SiriusXM's internal list through the online account, chat, by calling the Listener Care Center at 1-866-303-5603, or, for people who “do not have an account with us,” by mail to Sirius XM Radio LLC “Do Not Call” Compliance Manager, P.O. Box 33174, Detroit, MI 48232. It also says the list “restricts marketing calls from SiriusXM only” and points to the National Do Not Call Registry (1-888-382-1222, donotcall.gov). The same page says: “Being on the SiriusXM DNC List restricts telephone solicitations only. We may still contact you for non-solicitation purposes, including about service-related issues, surveys, billing, and other topics.”

Where to complain outside the company. The FCC's guide “Filing an Informal Complaint” says to go to fcc.gov/complaints or call 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322) and that “Before filing a complaint with the FCC, you should try to resolve the issue with your provider.” The FTC's ReportFraud.ftc.gov takes reports about companies, fraud and unwanted calls. Your state attorney general's consumer protection office and the BBB also accept complaints; the New York Attorney General's cancellation case against the company is described below.

Regulators: New York Attorney General cancellation case and the 2014 multistate settlement

Sources checked on October 11, 2026: the company's Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 (legal proceedings note), the New York courts' decisions and Court of Appeals filing lists, the New York and Maine attorney general press releases, the Campbell settlement website and final order, and web searches for FTC, FCC and state attorney general actions naming Sirius XM. This is not a complete list of every state or federal inquiry; absence from these sources is not a finding that none exists.

New York Attorney General: cancellation case (2023 to present). On December 20, 2023 the New York Attorney General filed a petition against Sirius XM Radio Inc. (now Sirius XM Radio LLC) in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, New York County (Index No. 453325/2023). The Attorney General's press release said the office's investigation found that the company “forces its subscribers to call or chat online with an agent to cancel a subscription, then deliberately draws out those interactions.” In November 2024 the trial court dismissed most claims but granted the Attorney General summary judgment on one: that the company's cancellation practice violated the federal Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA) “simple mechanism” requirement. According to the company's 10-Q, the court “granted Sirius XM summary judgment on all but one of the NY AG's claims,” and “As of November 27, 2024, Sirius XM permits New York residents who purchase a subscription online to also cancel that subscription online.”

On November 6, 2025 the Appellate Division, First Department (2025 NY Slip Op 06145) unanimously affirmed. It held that the representation that consumers could cancel at any time was not deceptive under the statutes at issue (“Consumers could, in fact, cancel at any time, but they had to go through a customer representative who made various ‘save offers’”), and that the Attorney General could not base claims or seek recovery on out-of-state consumers. On the ROSCA claim it held: “The multi-tiered script, multiple save offers, and pressure tactics to opt into a new plan render respondent’s cancellation policy not simple, convenient, or even straightforward.”

On April 1, 2026 the trial court (2026 NY Slip Op 31328(U)) granted the Attorney General an injunction and an accounting. The order enjoins Sirius XM Radio LLC “from violating ROSCA by providing New York consumers sold a Sirius subscription in a transaction effected on the Internet a cancellation method that uses a multitiered script, multiple save offers, and pressure tactics to opt into a new plan,” and requires, within 60 days of service of the order with notice of entry, an accounting covering New York consumers sold a subscription online from January 1, 2019 to November 27, 2024. The court noted that “The issue of damages remains outstanding” and that it would not be appropriate to require data after the company changed its policy. The Court of Appeals' May 2026 filings list shows the Appellate Division granted leave to appeal on May 14, 2026 (APL-2026-00071) on whether the Attorney General may seek relief for out-of-state consumers; the company's 10-Q says that appeal is pending.

Multistate settlement (2014). On December 11, 2014 the Maine Attorney General, with the attorneys general of 44 other states and the District of Columbia, announced that Sirius XM Radio Inc. “has agreed to pay $3.8 million to the states and to provide restitution to eligible consumers” under an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance. The release says the states' investigation focused on complaints about “difficulty canceling contracts; cancellation requests that were not honored; ... contracts that were automatically renewed without consumers’ notice or consent; unauthorized fees; higher, unanticipated rates after a low introductory rate; and Sirius XM failing to provide timely refunds.” The company agreed, among other things, to disclose terms at the point of sale, to provide advance notice of automatic renewals for plans longer than six months, to revise its cancellation procedures, and to prohibit incentive compensation for representatives based solely on “saves.” Restitution covered conduct from July 28, 2008 to December 4, 2014; the claim deadline given in the release was May 3, 2015, which has passed.

Federal agencies. In the sources checked on October 11, 2026, no FCC or FTC enforcement action naming Sirius XM Radio as respondent concerning subscription billing or cancellation was identified, and the company's 10-Q legal-proceedings note lists the New York matter, the royalty-fee actions and the Do-Not-Call case as its significant consumer matters.

Sirius XM Radio LLC and Sirius XM Holdings Inc.: who operates SiriusXM

Sirius XM Radio LLC is the company named in the current Customer Agreement as the party to a SiriusXM subscription. Its parent, Sirius XM Holdings Inc., is a Delaware corporation whose common stock is listed on Nasdaq (SIRI), with principal executive offices at 1221 Avenue of the Americas, 35th Floor, New York, NY 10020. Holdings' June 30, 2026 Form 10-Q defines “SiriusXM” as “Sirius XM Holdings’ wholly owned subsidiaries, Sirius XM Inc., Sirius XM Radio LLC and its subsidiaries other than Pandora,” and “Pandora” as SiriusXM's wholly owned subsidiary Pandora Media, LLC and its subsidiaries.

Corporate history, as the company's filings describe it. The 10-K for 2008, filed by Sirius XM Radio Inc., says that on July 28, 2008 Vernon Merger Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sirius, “merged ... with and into XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. and, as a result, XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. is now our wholly owned subsidiary.” Complaints on this site that name “XM Radio” or “Sirius” before that date concerned what were then two separate companies; later complaints name the combined company. The June 2026 10-Q describes a further September 9, 2024 transaction in which Liberty Media completed a split-off of Liberty Sirius XM Holdings Inc. (“SplitCo”), after which, in the 10-Q's words, “a wholly owned subsidiary of SplitCo merged with and into Sirius XM Holdings Inc. (‘Old Sirius’), with Old Sirius surviving the merger as a wholly owned subsidiary of SplitCo,” and SplitCo “was renamed ‘Sirius XM Holdings Inc.’”; on September 6, 2024 Sirius XM Radio converted from a Delaware corporation to a Delaware limited liability company.

What the service is. The 10-Q describes the SiriusXM business as audio entertainment “available in the United States on a subscription fee basis” through satellite radio systems and streaming apps, distributed largely through automakers, retailers and SiriusXM's own channels. Many customers first encounter SiriusXM as a trial that comes with a new or used vehicle; the Customer Agreement says those trials do not automatically renew, while paid plans do.

Sirius XM Canada is a separate company: the 10-Q says SiriusXM holds a 70 percent equity interest and 33 percent voting interest in Sirius XM Canada Holdings Inc., and this page does not cover Canadian subscriptions.

Sirius XM complaint record: BBB, Trustpilot, ComplaintsBoard as displayed on October 11, 2026 and this site's archive

Review-site figures as displayed on October 11, 2026. For the BBB profile for SiriusXM Radio (1221 Avenue of the Americas, New York; BBB says it is not BBB Accredited), BBB showed letter rating A+, 1,076 total complaints in the last 3 years, 222 complaints filed in the last 12 months, and customer reviews of 1.08 out of 5 stars from an average of 431 customer reviews. BBB shows the letter rating and the customer-review score separately. The profile also carries a BBB-written notice reading: “Complaints filed with the BBB allege that this firm has overcharged consumer's accounts and incorrectly billed consumers for various services,” and adds that “due to the high volume of complaints for this business, BBB publishes 1 out of every 5 complaints handled through our conciliation process,” so the complaints BBB lists are a sample of those handled. Trustpilot showed a claimed profile with 1.2 out of 5 from 1,138 reviews (192 in the last 12 months; 88 percent one-star, 3 percent five-star) and notes that the company has no recent history of asking for reviews and has not replied to negative reviews. ComplaintsBoard showed a 2.2-star rating from 3 reviews and 306 complaints, many of them old. These are three different counting systems and are not added together; none of them is a finding about the company's conduct.

This site's archive. The usacomplaints.com archive holds 367 approved posts that name Sirius, XM or SiriusXM as the company complained about, dated from 2004 to 2013 plus one from 2020, and three posts that complain about a collection agency collecting a SiriusXM account (linked as collector). Posts naming retailers or automakers where Sirius was only a product, and posts judged to be duplicates or machine-garbled text, are not counted. The posts are individuals' allegations, not findings, and most were written before the current Customer Agreement and the 2024 New York cancellation change described above; 95 of them are dated 2007 or earlier, before the July 2008 merger of Sirius and XM.

What the posts describe (keyword counts, not findings). Among the 367 primary posts: cancelling or cancellation is named in 183; renewal or auto-renewal in 87; unauthorized, unexpected or double charges in 66; collection agency or collections in 64; refunds requested or refused in 71; customer service waits, transfers or call-center complaints in 181; rebates not received or declined in 38 (mostly 2005 to 2007 radio rebate offers); and lifetime subscriptions or transfers in 30. A few posts (for example from 2009 and 2012) praise the service or its customer service. A post may fall into several categories.

Sirius XM lawsuits: Campbell Do-Not-Call settlement, U.S. Music Royalty Fee class actions and mass arbitrations

Do-Not-Call class action (settled; objector's appeal pending). Campbell et al. v. Sirius XM Radio Inc., No. 2:22-cv-2261 (C.D. Ill., Urbana Division), filed November 29, 2022, alleged calls to people on the National Do Not Call Registry or on Sirius XM's internal list. The settlement website says Sirius XM “denies any wrongdoing of any kind and the Court has not decided who is right.” Sirius XM agreed to pay a non-reversionary $28,000,000 fund for a class covering April 27, 2019 through October 31, 2025, plus practice changes. Judge Colin S. Bruce entered the Final Settlement Approval Order and Final Judgment on July 6, 2026 after a June 26, 2026 hearing, approving one-third of the net $26,620,000 fund ($8,873,333.33) for class counsel fees and $10,000 service awards, overruling two objections from one objector (one to the settlement and one to the fee request), and dismissing the action with prejudice. The claim deadline of March 21, 2026 has passed. The settlement website says payments will be issued “after the Settlement is approved and becomes Final” and that appeals may delay them. The Justia docket listing for the Seventh Circuit shows an appeal by the objector, Nigel Cohen v. Sirius XM Radio, Inc., et al, No. 26-2779, filed August 27, 2026, with an order setting the appellant's brief due October 16, 2026 and appellees' briefs due November 16, 2026; the appeal's outcome was not identified in the sources checked on October 11, 2026. Check the official site, SXMTCPASettlement.com, for payment status.

Who the Campbell class covers. The settlement website's FAQ describes two groups of natural persons in the United States who “received more than one telephone solicitation call in a 12-month period between April 27, 2019 and October 31, 2025” made by or on behalf of Sirius XM: those whose calls came more than 31 days after they registered the number with the National Do-Not-Call Registry and who were not “a self-paying Sirius XM subscriber at the time of the first call or before the start of the second call,” and those whose calls came after they asked to be placed on Sirius XM's internal Do-Not-Call list. Check the FAQ for the full definition.

U.S. Music Royalty Fee class actions and mass arbitrations. The June 30, 2026 10-Q says that since 2023 putative class actions and mass arbitration demands alleged that Sirius XM “falsely advertised its music subscription plans at lower prices than it actually charges” and did not disclose its U.S. Music Royalty Fee, in violation of state consumer protection laws (some also under the Electronic Funds Transfer Act). It says “Over half of the approximately 70,000 purported mass arbitration claims have been withdrawn by counsel or closed by the American Arbitration Association,” that a January 13, 2026 settlement “resolved most of the remaining mass arbitration claims and the previously disclosed Carovillano, Burns, Kirkpatrick, Balmores and Woods lawsuits,” and that the sole remaining related putative class action, Stutsman, et al. v. Sirius XM Radio LLC, is pending in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. The company says it has substantial defenses. The 10-Q does not give the settlement's terms.

Earlier settlements referenced by the company. The Campbell settlement page refers to practices “previously agreed upon in the Buchanan Settlement Agreement” (an earlier telemarketing class action); we did not open that case's docket and do not describe its terms here.

Is Sirius XM Legitimate?

Sirius XM Radio LLC is an identifiable operating company: it is the contracting party in the Customer Agreement, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sirius XM Holdings Inc., an SEC registrant that files annual and quarterly reports (most recently the Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026). The BBB profile for SiriusXM Radio in New York shows a letter rating of A+ and is not BBB Accredited, with 1,076 complaints in the last three years as displayed on October 11, 2026. The company has been the subject of a New York Attorney General proceeding in which a New York court held its cancellation process violated ROSCA, and of a 2014 multistate attorney-general settlement over cancellation and renewal practices. It has also settled a Do-Not-Call class action for $28 million and is defending a U.S. Music Royalty Fee class action. Those are the company's documented regulatory and court record; individual customers' experiences, including the archive posts here, are their own accounts.

On April 1, 2026 the trial court (2026 NY Slip Op 31328(U)) granted an injunction and an accounting for New York online purchasers from January 1, 2019 to November 27, 2024 and noted that damages remain outstanding. The Appellate Division granted the Attorney General leave to appeal on May 14, 2026 (Court of Appeals APL-2026-00071). Frequently Asked Questions

How do I cancel SiriusXM?

Per the Customer Agreement (Last Updated June 5, 2025), Section 4(a), subscriptions bought directly from SiriusXM may be cancelled by phone at 1-866-635-2349 (audio/infotainment, Monday-Sunday 8 am - 8 pm ET) or by online chat at siriusxm.com/contactus. The Help Center article lists the Subscriptions tab in the Online Account Center, chat, or 866-635-8641. The Agreement says cancellation must be made at least 24 hours before the renewal date and that selling a vehicle or not using the service does not cancel it.

Does SiriusXM give refunds?

Section 3(b) of the Customer Agreement says “Audio Subscriptions Are Non-Refundable,” with exceptions: a pro-rata refund if requested for a monthly plan cancelled within 7 days of the start date, and for non-monthly plans cancelled within 30 days of the start or of each renewal charge. Refunds or credits outside those terms are described as given “only as an accommodation and at our sole discretion.”

Does a SiriusXM trial in a new car renew automatically?

Section 2(c) of the Customer Agreement says subscriptions included with the purchase or lease of a vehicle “do not automatically renew” and stop at the end of the stated term or on sale or transfer of the vehicle. Section 2(b) says a paid plan, including one starting with a free period, automatically renews until cancelled. Check the offer terms for the specific trial or plan.

What can I do if SiriusXM charged me after I cancelled?

The Customer Agreement (Section 8(e)) says to call or chat, or write to Sirius XM Care, PO Box 33174, Detroit, MI 48232, Attention: Listener Care, and to contact the company within 30 days after the charge, adding that otherwise “YOU WAIVE YOUR RIGHT TO DISPUTE THE CHARGE.” You can also ask your card issuer about a chargeback under its rules, and file a complaint with your state attorney general, the BBB, the FCC (fcc.gov/complaints) or the FTC (ReportFraud.ftc.gov).

What did the New York Attorney General case against SiriusXM decide?

In People v. Sirius XM Radio Inc. (Index No. 453325/2023), the trial court held in November 2024 that the company's cancellation practice violated the ROSCA “simple mechanism” requirement and dismissed the other claims; the Appellate Division, First Department affirmed on November 6, 2025 (2025 NY Slip Op 06145). On April 1, 2026 the trial court enjoined a cancellation method using “a multitiered script, multiple save offers, and pressure tactics” for New York online purchasers and ordered an accounting; damages remain outstanding, and the Court of Appeals has a pending appeal on out-of-state consumers (APL-2026-00071).

What is the SiriusXM $28 million Do-Not-Call settlement?

It resolves Campbell et al. v. Sirius XM Radio Inc., No. 2:22-cv-2261 (C.D. Ill.), a class action over calls to numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry or SiriusXM's internal list between April 27, 2019 and October 31, 2025. The court entered final approval on July 6, 2026. The claim deadline of March 21, 2026 has passed. The settlement website says payments follow once the settlement is final and that appeals may delay them; the Justia docket listing shows an appeal by objector Nigel Cohen, Seventh Circuit No. 26-2779, filed August 27, 2026 (appellant's brief due October 16, 2026). Check SXMTCPASettlement.com for status.

Who owns SiriusXM and who is the company I contract with?

The Customer Agreement is with Sirius XM Radio LLC. Sirius XM Holdings Inc.'s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 describes Sirius XM Radio LLC as a wholly owned subsidiary of Sirius XM Holdings and says Liberty Media ceased to own any Sirius XM Holdings shares after the September 9, 2024 transactions. The 2008 10-K says XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. became a wholly owned subsidiary on July 28, 2008.

What is the SiriusXM U.S. Music Royalty Fee?

SiriusXM's U.S. Music Royalty Fee page says the fee offsets royalties the company pays and is “included in the advertised prices you see.” It lists the fee as 19.98 percent of the subscription price of satellite plans that include music channels as of February 24, 2026, and 8.8 percent for streaming plans as of August 22, 2018. The company's 10-Q describes class actions and mass arbitrations alleging the fee was not adequately disclosed; the company says it has substantial defenses.

How do I stop SiriusXM marketing calls?

SiriusXM's Do Not Call Policy page says to manage numbers in the online account, use chat, call the Listener Care Center at 1-866-303-5603, or or, if you do not have an account with SiriusXM, write to Sirius XM Radio LLC “Do Not Call” Compliance Manager, P.O. Box 33174, Detroit, MI 48232, including your name, account number(s) and the numbers. It notes the list restricts marketing calls from SiriusXM only, and that “Being on the SiriusXM DNC List restricts telephone solicitations only. We may still contact you for non-solicitation purposes, including about service-related issues, surveys, billing, and other topics.” It points to the National Do Not Call Registry at donotcall.gov or 1-888-382-1222.
