Baby assigned exit row - and seated alone

In reassigning our 17 month old baby's seat, he was put in a middle seat in an exit row by himself. That is against FAA regulations. Further more, we were assigned middle and aisle seats (in a different row). When we moved him from the exit row and began to set up the car seat for his safest air travel, the flight attendant told us we couldn't sit him in a middle or aisle seat because the people seated on the window or aisle would not have clear egress.
