Cliff Dwellers Resort
Rip-off!

My family enjoyed a Door County vacation June 24-26. We enjoyed the Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay, the shops on Jefferson Street. We took in the Winery tour and a few shops on the way to Egg Harbor, also, the very 1st of the season farmer market. These were all very memorable and enjoyable things to do.

Our experience at the Cliff Dwellers Resort however left a great deal to be desired. Unfortunately for all involved this year is unseasonably cool. We attempted to turn the heat on in our room 105 at about 6 P.M. And still by 8 P.M. It was very cool in the room—the bathroom thermostat did not even register 70 degrees. I contacted the office and the receptionist came to our room and manually felt the registers agreeing they were cold. She would send the maitance staff up. Now at 8:30 he appoligizes stating he wishes this forced air heat were quicker but the boiler is hot and we will eventuaally get heat. I told him that I had turned up the thermostat in the bathroom beyond 80 degrees with no result. His response to this was "oh, is there a thermostat in there".

After asking how long he expected it would be before warming up in the room occurred-he said he didn't know. I asked what we should do if it didn't warm up and we had to leave (knowing the office is only staffed until 9 P.M.). He told me just to contact the office in the morning-he could not say what would happen, as his wife owned the resort not him.

A few moments later I received a phone call from Diane the manager. She told me to heat the room with the bathroom electric coil in the ceiling. I explained this too seemed not to work.

Shortly Diane arrived at our door-felt the water piped heating unit and explained the boiler was warm and that we would be fine. This after my statement of the late hour, my fear of trying to sleep in such a cool environment and potential of trying to locate a different motel for the night. After she left the bathroom electric heat unit in the ceiling started to function-ut did give off an ordor making me question how safe it was. More than likely it was burning off the dust-however I did not feel comfortable to leave this run while my family slept.

I believe the room heated with this bathroom unit making it a more tolerable temperature. The office staff had previously brought extra blankets, and we had a good night. No further contact was ever made by staff to us regarding the heat. The rest of our stay the heating system did seem to be working well enough to make the room warm.

The ad for Cliff Dwellers states "outdoor heated Pool". I do not consider a solar cover acceptable to be advertised as a heated pool.

The ad also states tennis court. When I called for reservations I was told the equipment was provided to play tennis. Although neither my son nor myself are professional tennis players I expect a tennis court not to have weeds knee high or a large pothole in it. I also expected tennis equipment-my son who is 5 foot tall and weighs 120 pounds was given a badmit racket to play with.

Last but not least, when making the reservations I specifically asked about a beach. I was told they had one and it was accessible to guests. I expected a sand beach, what we found was a very small rock covered launching pad for the rowboats.

I feel that I was very misled. I would like the Chamber of Commerce to be aware. Thank you for providing me the opportunity to be heard.

Sincerely,

Barb

This is a copy of a letter sent to Door County Chamber of Commerce. They placed the letter on file and let me know they had no ability to do more than forward my concerns to Cliff Dwellers. They felt sure that when such items a brought to the company attention they work to resolve such complaints in a courteous and business-like manner. Within 2 days I recieved a letter from Cliff Dwellers letting me know that my concerns had fallen on deaf ears. They feel their advertisement is accurate. I disagree.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I believe that I investigated this resort well before reserving, and I do not believe they are what they advertise.

Sincerely,

Barbara
