Super 8 in Revelstoke Ripped Me Off $200

On June 3rd I paid for a room at the super 8 in revelstoke. At time of check-in I signed a waiver agreeing not to smoke in the room, as there was a $200 penalty. Accordingly, I used the designated smoking area outside in the back of the hotel (bench, ashtray, provided) and furthermore saw the manager himself when my girlfriend and I were out there, as he went to the Smithrite waste bin with a load of garbage. They waved at each other.

We checked out the next morning without incident, and left our keys at Reception on the way out, as instructed.

Upon returning home to Vancouver last Tuesday, June 8rd I found a charge on my credit card for $200 from the Super 8. When my girlfriend checked the phone messages, she found a message from the Front Desk girl at Super 8 advising that a charge for smoking had been put on my credit card. My girlfriend called right back and spoke to the employee that left the message, stating vehemently that we did not smoke in the room at all and wanted the charge reversed. The employee took our number and said the manager would be in later and call us back. We did not receive a call. On Wednesday I called the Super 8 again and attempted to make contact with the Manager five times, to no avail. I believe that actually on one phone call I was speaking to the Manager, as he identified himself as such when he answered. When I identified myself and the issue, he took my phone number down and said he would call me back in 5 minutes. He did not. I called him back 20 minutes later, and he answered again, and immediately passed the phone to the Receptionist who said he was a trainee, not the Manager. I believe it is reasonable to say that the Manager was avoiding me.

Thursday morning I received a call from someone claiming to be the Customer Service representative for the Super 8 in Revelstoke. This person indicated that the cleaning staff had said it smelled like smoke in the room. I insisted that I did not smoke in the room, but rather out side in the designated area, and Super 8 should be able to verify that, as they have cameras in the hallways and I was in and out of the building at least five times that evening before bed. The caller then asked if I was planning on going ahead with my complaint, to which I responded yes.

I refuse to back down from this claim, on principle, as I acted in good faith and fulfilled my contractual obligation. I owe nothing to the Super 8 Hotels and feel they owe me a refund and an apology, at the very least.
