On 3/17 we paid to stay in a hotel room at this hotel. There were 2 adults and 1 5-year old. Upon checking my credit card statement after our stay, we were billed an extra $250 for smoking in a non-smoking room. We are non smokers and did not smoke in the room. We expressed that to management and were told that they found a cigarette butt in the trash. It was not ours and they have no way of proving that it was. The cigarette butt could have been left by anyone, prior guests, workers, etc... Or, the photograph may not have even been from our room, that date, or anything.
We can get statements from work, doctors, friends, etc... To testify that we are not smokers. The manager of the hotel told us we signed a paper saying that if we did smoke in the room we would pay $250. We did, but, since we didn't smoke, we shouldn't have to pay the $250. The manager did not believe us and the owner is not returning our phone calls.
Quite frankly, I believe this is a scam the hotel is running and most people don't notice the charge or
don't fight it. So, they get away with it enough to make money.
