My brother was killed in an accident on Jan 25th. My daughter was trying to come home from the funeral but was delayed when her flight was cancelled out of Ohare. United Airlines sent her to the Super 8 Ohare motel with a voucher that would only pay for part of the room. My daughter had a credit card with my husband's name on it, for which she is an authorized user.
The employee on duty refused to speak with the credit card company to verify my daughter is an authorized user. This would have taken all of maybe one minute.
My daughter spoke with the manager who also refused to verify.
My daughter then called me, exhausted and in tears, and I spoke with the employee and offered to give her what ever she needed to verify and give my daughter a room. The employee refused me and said the only way was for me to send a copy of the credit card by fax or email.
My daughter had been sitting in the Indianpolis airport and on the runway for many hours. She was very grief stricken and nothing was going right due to the weather. The weather was also bad here at home.
I feel like this motel could have take one minute to dial the number for the credit card company and verify my daughter as a user so they could give her a room without making me jeopardize my card number by having to send it by email.
My daughter also ask the employee if I could make a reservation for her over the internet and the employee told her they did not except internet reservations. This is an outright lie!
I would like to have solved this with Super 8 corporate or the franchise owner but both the employee and the manager refused to give either my daughter or myself the address or phone number for corporate or who the franchise owner is. The 800 number also refused to give me the information I asked for.
I'd like to know if most of the Super 8's in the United States are owned by foreign interest. The employee I spoke to did not speak good english and neither did the person I spoke to at the 800 number.
I have the first names of the employee and manager. These people were so heartless and rude. I have been so consumed with grief at the loss of my little brother and so worried about my daughter traveling to Indiana at this time of year. I think this motel employee could have taken one minute to verify the information given her and saved both my daughter and I more stress. Especially since both my daughter and I told her the whole situation independently of each other.
I will never stay at a Super 8 anywhere again. Even if I have to pay double for a room. I hope the rest of you will keep this story in mind when you make reservations and not use Super 8. There is no excuse for this behavior except for an employee and a manager who take delight in other's pain.
