First, let me say that the Intown Suites motel chain makes their money by advertising low rates, and scaming people by their limited office hours, lack of services, and bogus charges. Their weird office hours puts everyday working people in a real bind, and that's what they count on.
I checked into the Intown Suites in Burnsville, MN on September 11, a Wednesday. I requested a weekly rate and intended to stay several weeks due to a construction job. I was required to put up a $100 cash deposit - no problem. I was told that rent was due by noon each Wednesday or there would be a $45 late fee, and they required a 24 hour move out notice, or there would be a $45 peanalty. All this I accepted with no reservations. I was told that cleaning day would be each Tuesday.
The problems began later in the week when I was told that I could not have my second floor window open - it was against the rules.
The following Tuesday evening, I came in at 6pm and paid the rent for the next week. When I went to my room, it had not been cleaned. The manager said they had trouble keeping maids, and they were behind.
By Saturday the room had still not been cleaned. Again, I went to the office to complain to the manager. Another guest in the office was there to complain also. He said his room had not been cleaned or serviced for THREE WEEKS! They finally sent a maid to the room, who did not put matress pads back under the sheets, left no toilet tissue, and left two bath towels and only one wash cloth. After pointing this out the manager, he replied they did not furnish toilet tissue or garbage bags, and only one wash cloth per room. (I was rooming with my brother - would you like to use someone else's wash cloth? For a whole week? To wash your face after he washed his... Well, you get the picture.)
The following Monday, my work hours changed to 12 hours a day, which made it impossible for me to pay the rent between 11am and 7pm because I wouldn't be off until 8pm. I went to the manager's office Monday evening to explain my dilema. Sorry, the rent has to be paid by Wednesday at noon. Can I drop it in the mail slot Tuesday night? No, we don't accept cash in the mail slot. Can I leave it with the onsite manager Tuesday evening? No, against the rules. They were totally unwilling to work with me, so I decided to move to a different place.
I put my 24 hour moveout notice in the mail slot Tuesday morning. That Tuesday, we still did not work 12 hours, so I went to the manager's office that evening. Yes, he received my notice. I told him I didn't know if I would work late Wednesday or not. If I didn't, I would pick up my $100 deposit Wednesday evening, if I did work late Wednesday, I would come by and pick it up Saturday.
You won't believe this. He said I could only get my deposit in cash BETWEEN 11AM AND NOON. If I did not get it then and only then, it would be mailed to me in 3 to 4 weeks! Well, I figued by then I would be out of the state on another job, they would load the bill with bogus charges, and I would never see the deposit and have no way to contest it 3 or 4 weeks later.
So I had to take of an hour of work (at $38 per hour) and drive 20 miles to go get my deposit.
It was a two week nightmare. I have never encountered such preposterous rules designed to cheat people out of their money, and I recommend you never stay at an Intown Suites property, and NEVER LET THEM GET YOUR CREDIT CARD! I have filed a complaint with the Minnesota BBB, and I am buisily contacting websites like this to let people know what scammers they are. Caveat emptor! Buyer beware!
