Despite their deceptively simple, easy to use website, these guys are anything but "easy."
My wife and I booked a sailing and snorkeling trip from them last summer for a trip to Cabo. But to my surprise, nowhere on our receipts did it state the location or name of the boat; only a cryptic "11:00 AM." And the phone number they provided was for a location in Mexico City, where no one spoke any English.
Once we arrived in Cabo, it took multiple phone calls from our bilingual hotel concierge to determine the location, a dock at the nearby Marina with a boat named Pez Gato, just in time for us to make it by 11.
However, at the dock gate, marina security told us that boat had sailed an hour ago at 10 AM, and that we couldn't enter. We were forced to pay for another, separate trip, for a fraction of the price VME charged. Fortunately, is was the best part of our vacation.
But when we returned stateside and attempted to contact Matt Cook, the VME Operations Manager, about a refund, they flat out refused. At this point I turned it over to my credit card company to dispute the charges, along with all our receipts for the other trip we were forced to take, thinking we would surely get reimbursed.
But these guys know all the tricks. Apparently, all they have to do is claim they provided the service, and the customer has no recourse. They don't even have to provide proof. And because they have a strict no refunds policy in writing, we were screwed.
My advice is, wait till you get to your destination and purchase your trips from the hotel concierge or directly at the venue. This online thing is way too corrupt. But the Matt Cooks of the world have figured out a sure fire money maker in this recession: collecting money for services never rendered with the banks on their side. Way to go, Matt!
