Hi everyone, here is the scoop on the travel experience I had on Carnival Ecstasy 8-3-09 thorough 9-8-09 (port of call: Galveston, Texas). To make it short and sweet: the ship was unsanitary! It smelled like I had walked into a a sewer line. As I started walking I could smell feet and an array of body odors. My olfactory ability is intact so I know that what I was smelling was accurate. Having been able to smell all these unpleasant odors I still decided to give these cruise line a opportunity and not go with a set peridiem so I kept smelling the nasty sewer smell from our cabin's toilet and nobody in our travel group had yet used the toilet. I decided to inspect the toilet to find out if there was a leak or something. My findings were an unclean toilet! I could see the fecal material around the rim of the toilet. I don't mean to gross you out but being a nurse makes you learn a few things about fecal material. For those nurses reading: the fecal material around the rim of the toilet was that of a bowel movement that envolved serious bacteria because it was explosive and to top it all off, it had not been cleaned adequately. This toilet need Clorox, hot water and a pair of gloves! Then cleaned off with alcohol with gloves on, of course. I decided that if anyone was going to keep my family in good health it was my responsibility to clean it and I did. All through the travel this toilet kept smelling like back up sewer water! It was totally disgusting. The toilet was clean but there was this certain smell that was nasty. Anyway, I was sick on the 3rd day onboard. I don't know if it was a virus I picked up on the ship, or I was just sea sick but I definetly had to be excused from dinner that night. I only vomited once, there after I had a fever the next 2 nights and today I was gifted by a Rocephin shot, more antibiotics because I was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection. All I can say is beware of the things you may have to encounter on the Ecstasy especially if you have children and elderly with you. I had my kids and my mother traveling with me. My mother had the same signs and symptoms as I did. I am just praying that the kids don't get it - whatever it is!
