On May 20th, I received a call from Cheaptrips.com - you know when they say it's too good to be true? Well, I don't know what came over me but I actually listened to the guy and agreed to try out the membership. I was told that it would be a one time charge of $59.95, and if I didn't like what I saw I could return the packet and the money would be refunded. I asked them to hold the order until the 25th, because I wanted to review the information with my husband.

So, why did I look at my statement and see TWO charges for $59.95? I called them to find out, and they said that I had signed up for two memberships. Oh really? Who is the other membership for? They told me that I had signed up my husband. What they failed to realize is that my husband and I do not have the same last name, so when they called him by MY last name, it took all of my energy not to laugh out loud!

Keep in mind, I still haven't received this oh so important packet (as of June 3rd). After being bounced around a bit, I got one girl to cancel my husband's membership. So..."when should I expect the refund to hit my account?" She replies with "one billing cycle". Now - it takes all of 5 seconds to process a credit card refund and 24-48 hours for it to clear (I once worked retail), so I found this unacceptable ESPECIALLY since this was an unauthorized charge to begin with! I got annoyed and asked for her supervisor to which she replied "he's going to have to call you back, he's on the phone with other Customers". Oh boy - what did I get myself into???

I asked to speak to someone else, and they bounced me to a very nice woman who assured me that she would listen to the phone conversations to verify what I was saying. That's all well and good, but how is she supposed to help me? She actually replied "I don't know why they transferred you to me". At least SOMEONE was honest...

I had a teleconference for work so I couldn't play this game all day. When I finally got a chance to call back, I got a very nasty woman who told me "You're on the supervisor's list and your husband's account has been cancelled. What else do you want?" I firmly said "my money now, not a month from now". She said "our policy is 30 days" to which I replied "which is why I want to speak to someone who can amend that". She began getting snippy with me, and then said "the supervisor will call you by Monday". Today's Thursday, so he either has a HUGE line of people that are mad, or he's a lazy bum. Either way, I'm still heated.

Now I KNOW I should have thought more carefully about this, done some more research, looked at this site, etc. I normally don't fall for this kind of thing, but it sounded so simple, I didn't realize what a big deal it would turn out to be. After finally finding someone who didn't have an attitude, I asked that my membership be cancelled as well because I was so aggravated. Another 30 days.

Moral of the story? If it sounds too good to be true... It probably is. I've since looked them up and can't believe the number of horror stories I've read - not to mention their "F" rating on the BBB website! Never again...
