Traveled on the Cardinal 1st class (bedroom) from Hinton, WV to Denver, CO in Jan.'09. Train was an hour late getting to Hinton.By the time we reached Chicago, we had made up forty minutes. Food in the dining car was decent. I give it a B. The service was a B-. The train staff was pleasant and efficient. Beds were made up at the time we asked and put back to daytime status while at breakfast! Left Chicago on time on the California Zephyr. Staff was courteous and knew their jobs. We were exactly on time into Denver. Return trip to Hinton was as good or better. I had not traveled with AMTRAK in 37 years. After hearing of many problems traveling the rails, I was prepared to be disappointed.instead, I was pleasantly suprised. I will travel AMTRAK whenever feasible.
