My family and I went to Lake of the Ozarks in MO for Labor Day weekend. An end of summer vacation, if you will. We only planned on staying 1 night, but, decided that since we were having such a good time to stay 1 more night. We searched many hotels for rates and availability and found a few in different price ranges available. We chose the Howard Johnson Hotel in Osage Beach, Mo since we were under the impression that the Howard Johnson hotels had a good reputation for being family friendly, clean, and it was in a good location. We were able to check in early which enabled us to get settled in before taking our children out to have fun. We arrived back at our hotel around 7:30pm and decided that we would all go to the indoor pool for about an hour before we called it a night. While getting ready, we received a complaint call from the front desk that the room below us was complaining about all of the noise coming from our room and it sounded like someone was running around our room. Keep in mind, we were all walking around the room getting our swim gear on. There was no one running. The room below us was a conference room! What? We have children-we were getting ready to go to the pool-kids tend to get excited about swimming, but, we have had many occasions of being stuck on the bottom floor of hotels since we have children, so we know how it sounds, and that's why we are careful about the noise levels in our 2nd floor room. We ended up checking out of the hotel about 30 minutes later. How very sad that a foreign family with no respect for American Family values decided to ruin our vacation. When my husband spoke with the manager of the hotel, which is the family living in the conference room below our room, (Isn't that a fire hazzard?) he had no regard for how we felt as paying customers. When my husband explained that we were checking out early because I was upset about how we were treated because of having children in the room, the manager laughed and said that she should be upset. My husband had to restrain himself. He calmly explained that in America, our men have respect for the woman's feelings and he's lucky that he had us a family above him instead of someone who's not afraid of 'punching his lights out'! Needless to say, we drove home that evening. (A 4 hr drive!) We will never stay at the Howard Johnson hotel in Osage Beach again. If you are looking for a fun family vacation, I highly recommend taking them to the Lake of the Ozarks in MO. However, do not stay at the Howard Johnson! I highly recommend the Baymont Inn and Suites. They are a very family friendly hotel located not too far from the Howard Johnson. The rooms are a lot cleaner at the Baymont also.
