My husband and I went on hotwire to book a hotel for our anniversary, a 3 star hotel and you don't know what your going to get until you pay, so we got the Marriott by the convention center on NE Wasco and MLK to stay for two days.
I arrived at check-in time and my husband came later after work. The lady at the counter was a complete ditsz fumbling and mumbling to herself, taking my credit card twice, wanting to charge me for parking and when I said no thanks I'll park elsewhere, got an attitude and ripped up the parking tag in my face... I proceeded to my room to relax and wait for my husband to arrive.
Later on in the evening I went to go down to take a juccuzzi and found about 25 little black kids in the pool and hot tub where their was no room to get in not to mention all the noise, said they were having a bday party. One lady was nursing her infant in the hot tub (never seen that before) so I turned around and left and forgot about that idea. I went back to the room and waited for my husband, was watching TV, when someone was banging at the door again and again. I openned the door to see a lady (hotel staff yelling at me about some ashes in the hallway and that I was in a non-smoking room and that guests were complaining.
I told her she was mistaken, it wasn't me and she perceeded to continue to accuse me and said she was charging me a fee of $250.00, I said again she was mistaken and that I wasn't paying a fee and she said to bad, take it up with your credit card company. I closed the door.
A little bit later my husband showed up and I told him what happened. Asked him if he smelled any smoke (he is allergic to smoke and can smell it a mile away) he said no, cause his sinus gets so bad when around any smoke. He saw the ashes in the middle of the hallway, somewhat by our door. He went downstairs to talk to someone about it and the charge and no one was around and said they couldn't help him, so he came back up and then he told me what happen to him when he came in and ask the front desk for his key I had left for him. He ask them if they had a key for him and they looked straight at him and said no, then a pause and then the lady started laughing and said just kidding here's your key.
Well, he just finished working all day, was hungry and didn't think it was funny, looked at her strange and proceeded to our room. We stayed in our room for two days and with the do not disturb sign on it, going out about 3 hours or so for dinner after 9.30pm. When we checked out, he discussed the charge and our aweful exp. With yet another person at the desk and they said that it was reported that I came to the door with a cigerette in my hand, that I admited to smoking and that the staff came in my room and smelled it to later on; (funny since we were in our room the whole two days except a few hours and even then had the do not disturb sign on our door and no evidence of anyone coming into the room) at that point and pack of lies later we finally concluded that this was a scam and that because we got such a good deal thru hotwire, they find ways to make you pay extra fees ect., plus when we acted like we weren't amused by their aweful customer service, they held a grudge I imagine.
The room was so basic and ugly without a dvd player, refrig and a bathroom fan or window that openned for fresh air. They advertised having a resturant but it was always closed except for room service. Needless to say we are investigating further thru hotwire and our bank to get a full refund. I recommend never to stay at a marriott who says they are a 3 star hotel and really a minus 1.
I know we never will... My husband and I have stayed at hotels all over the world and have never been so shocked and amazed by such aweful treatment. Maybe cause it was kinda in the Ghetto, I don't know, they think they can treat people any way they want. I know I am sticking to a 4 star hotel in the future, just in case, where we have always had great experiences.
