Phone Phishing Scam ripoff

I just received a phone call (unfortunately I picked up right away so I didn't see the number) from Travel Agents Direct, offering me a $400 voucher for travel and free 3day/2night vacation. Sounded good, and the woman's voice was very friendly, so I played along. She said they had gotten my information from a recent purchase using my checking account, which they needed to verify.

She asked for my bank name and city it was opened in. While she asked me to get my checkbook to verify the account info they had on file, I heard someone verifying my bank name/city in the background before she was able to tell me my checking routing number. Obviously they had obtained my routing number using the bank info I just gave them, and not from "my prior purchase" as they claimed.

She then asked for my birth place as a password (I made one up) then asked me to read her my account number. When I refused, she continued to try to convince me quite aggressively to do so, claiming it was already public knowledge since I give checks to so many institutions and write checks in public, and that I wouldn't be able to avail of the free travel voucher and vacation without it. If it really was public knowledge, she should have known it then!

I'm glad I didn't give in, especially after I looked up the company online and saw all the consumer complaintss!
