We purchased a time share for $12,000 at Williamsburg, Va.in 1995. This was featured as a GOLD CROWN facility and as such, furniture, draperies, carpets, etc would be replaced every 5 years. This did not happen. We have paid a monthly maintenance fee of $29/month which has increased to $40.92/month over the years We were informed abruptly in a letter dated 12/31/05 that a "special" 3 year assessment of $252.00 was'due and payable immediately. The letter went on to state that to retain the best possible rating of Gold Crown status, this charge was necessary. This charge applies only to time share ownwers at Williamsburg/Kingsgate and not at the many other locations throughout the country. We did not remit this charge and received a subsequent letter telling us that our account will be turned over for collection if not paid and that we were blocked from any travel until account was brought current. We had no alternative but to pay this charge. Any comments out there??
