We purchased a one week two bedroom vacation in Westgate Vacation Villas. On January 7th we decided to purchase a condominium timeshare in Town Center based on information that was told to us before the purchase. We were told that we had a 2 bedroom condo for 2 weeks and a 1 bedroom lockoff for 1 week each year. We were also told that we could purchase extra weeks for $299.00 per week.in addition to this we were given a free 2 year membership to Ice Gallery. We were told that through Ice Gallery that we could cruise for a 7 day expedition for $350.00 p/p and that we should never exchange one of our timeshare weeks for the cruise because it was so reasonible. This seemed like a good investment. When coming back to Michigan We found out that I was laid-off from work. We called to cancel the timeshare. The representative spoke to her manager to get the same condo with the same terms for a nice reduction in price. The representative said that the original contract would be canceled and a new contract would need to be activated, but we would have to sign the new contract. However, once the information was faxed over to us in the representatives handwriting there were things that were questionable. When I decided to investigate the timeshare deal, I had a hard time getting immediate answers. The first thing that I found out was that the condo was good for 1 week use in the 2 bedroom and 1 week in the 1 bedroom. The epresentative pacified us by saying that she would automatically upgrade us to 1 week in a 2 bedroom and 2 weeks in a 1 bedroom, even though this was not what we were told in the beginning. After this we questioned other things that were told to us. I found out that If we wanted to purchase an extra week it would cost us $199.00 per NIGHT!!! I had a hard time getting information through Ice Gallery because they told me it would take at least 6 weeks to receive my membership. I kept calling hoping that I would reach the right person that would give me information even without an activated membership. It took me about 10 days to reach the right person. I asked for a price on a 7 day cruise with the membership. I asked for a week that was of season to the Mexican Riviera on Dec. 8th. I was quoted $797.00 per adult and $330 per child. The thing that was aggravating was that a person could not tell from the contract that the information was any different then originally told. After this, I was furious. I called Westgate Resorts to cancel the timeshare. I was told I could not cancel because even though it was within 10 days of the 2nd contract, the contract would revert back to the original and it was over 10 days old. So I sent a notice of wanting to cancel despite info given to me. I decided to dispute the down payment on my credit card. I also complained to the Better Business Bureau on Feb. 2nd. I just thought that other people should be aware of this issue. Some people will tell you just anything to sell!!!
